Update on the kennel fundraiser for Home and Abroad Animal Welfare in Sri Lanka.
Janice, founder of Home and Abroad Animal Welfare shows us the new puppy kennel built with donations from the monthly animal healing evening. Thank you to everyone who attended the evening with Liz xx
Healing Animals Organisation (HAO) have been involved with Home And Abroad Animal Welfare HAAAW since 2009. Elizabeth has volunteered in Sri Lanka with Janice Down founder of HAAAW. Janice has a team of local vets who support the mission to help neuter, spay, vaccinate and worm the huge amount of stray dogs and cats that roam the country. Back in 2009 Liz took with her a mobile apothecary, HAO volunteers and a trained vet and treated hundreds of dogs and cats. Liz, Janice and a small cohort of animal professionals were some of the first people to travel to the north of Sri Lanka to treat animals, after the bloody civil war ended in 2009. A conflict lasting some 26 years.

It is a full time job for Janice founder of HAAAW. Working around the clock visiting outreach villages to save as many dogs and cats. With so many canine and feline road accidents, mange, worm burden, parvo, starvation and unnecessary pregnancies in a poverty stricken part of the world, is almost an impossible task. However 1000’s of animals are treated by HAAAW yearly. Janice relies solely on donations, fundraisers and the good will and compassion of people.
Her mission is to educate local village children in kindness to animals and handling skills. She has regular village gatherings throughout the year, and with the help of volunteer teachers, has paid for animal colouring books and pens to help promote a better understanding of how to look after animals on a day to day basis and recognise when an animal is suffering.
Currently our wonderful Adele, HAO animal healer is volunteering in Sri Lanka with Janice, working at a field hospital on the east coast. She has been involved in pre – post surgery care and has used her animal healing skills and sensory enrichment knowledge from the Diploma to help animals in her care. Adele will be joining us on Zoom to share her experiences.
HAO are fundraising for equipment for 2 small isolation dog kennels for HAAAW. This will mean a new concrete floor, drainage, robust, strong enough and water tight to be a cosy short term isolation unit. Please support our mission to help Janice and HAAAW and join our February live animal healing Zoom evening and this worthy cause.
